Why free
Free, with no paid tiers.
Kaleta is open source under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later. There is no premium edition, no paid plugins, no licence keys and no account with us – the download is the whole system.
Everything in one package.
The builder, design system, forms and enquiries, newsletter, pop-ups, language versions and the Claude connection are all in the same download. Extensions are switched on, not bought.
Your site, your server.
Kaleta runs on ordinary PHP hosting. You can export the whole site at any time, and nothing depends on a service run by us.
Open code.
The GPL lets you use Kaleta for any site, read the code, change it and share it. The source is public on GitHub.
Funding
How the work is paid for.
Development, security fixes and the guide are paid for by voluntary contributions through GitHub Sponsors. Sponsors get no extra features – every site gets the same system.
This site runs on Kaleta itself, so every release is used here first.
Costs
What you still pay for.
- Hosting and a domain – any PHP hosting with MySQL or MariaDB.
- A mailing service, if you send newsletters – Kaleta passes subscribers to it.
- A Claude plan or AI provider, if you edit with Claude or use the AI assistant.
Honestly
What free does not mean.
- No warranty – as the GPL says, Kaleta comes without a warranty. Keep backups, and install updates.
- Community support – questions and bugs go to GitHub; there is no paid support line.
- Legal texts are a starting point – the privacy policy and imprint templates are a suggestion; you are responsible for your own legal obligations.
Keep Kaleta free.
Even a small regular contribution pays for security fixes and new releases.
