Step by step

How the move works.

No command line. Test everything on a subdomain first; the old site keeps running until you switch the domain.

Export – in WordPress go to Tools → Export, choose All content and download the XML file.
Preview – in Kaleta open Import and export → WordPress and upload the file. The preview counts posts, pages and images and lists shortcodes it cannot convert.
Import – it works in batches, so it survives the time limits of shared hosting.
Images – download them into Media as a separate step, when you are ready.
Check – open a few old addresses; each redirects to its new page. You can run the import again; what it already converted is skipped.

Moving questions.

Does the import change my WordPress site?

No. You only download an export file from WordPress; the old site keeps running until you switch the domain over.

How big a site can I import?

The import reads the file in batches, so hundreds of posts are no problem even on shared hosting. The upload limit of your hosting decides how large a single export file can be.

Can I run the import again?

Yes. Kaleta remembers what it already converted and skips it, so you can import again after a new export – changes you made in Kaleta are not overwritten.
