SEO and languages

Language versions.

Run the site in around forty languages: each language version has its own pages, categories and news at /en/, /de/…, with a language switcher, hreflang and system addresses in the site language.

Switch on Language versions under Extensions and pick the languages in Settings → General. The site language is chosen already in the installer.

Languages

  • A site can be in around forty languages. Texts for visitors – buttons, forms, dates, the cookie bar – are translated into Czech, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Slovak; other languages fall back to English, with dates in their own format.
  • System addresses follow the language: /news and /search (in Czech /novinky and /hledani); old addresses redirect permanently.

How language versions work

  • The default language lives at the root; another language at /en/…, /de/… and so on.
  • Pages, news categories and news have a language; news takes it from its category. Collection items have a language too.
  • A page in another language can be linked to its original, so the language switcher and hreflang tags point to the right counterpart. With up to three languages the switcher shows them side by side, with more it opens a list.
  • The header, footer, wrappers, menus and pop-ups can differ per language.

Translating

With the AI assistant switched on, a news item can be translated into another site language. The translation is always saved as a draft for you to check. Claude can translate pages over MCP the same way.

Imprint

For EU markets, create a page from the Imprint template – the Company details element lists the registered details in one block.
